IASIA General Assembly 2024 Approved Several Strategic Proposals

Diogo Pereira,

The International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) held its General Assembly on July 4th, 2024, combining both in-person and virtual participation. The meeting took place in Bloemfontein, South Africa, during the IASIA 2024 Conference and was chaired by Dr. Najat Zarrouk, IASIA President, who shared the 2024 President's Report.

The General Assembly was marked by the presentation of IASIA's significant advancements and introduced a series of strategic proposals aimed at reinforcing the role of the association in shaping the future of public administration worldwide.

Proposal Nº1 suggested the development of a new strategic vision for IASIA to become a Global Think Tank, enhancing its role in shaping the public governance environment and its future.

Proposal N° 2 introduced new committees focusing on Governance and Mandate, Membership Strategy, Resources & Fundraising, Methodology & Portfolio, Communication Strategy, and the I.D.E.A.L. Committee.

Proposal N° 3 called for the establishment of new working groups dedicated to the Principles of Effective Governance for Sustainable Development and Resilience and Risk Disaster Reduction.

Proposal N° 4 approved the replacement appointment of BoM members, acknowledging Dr. Sara Jeza Alotaibi's exceptional service and welcoming Dr. Mohammad Saleh Ibrahim Albakhiti, PhD, as her replacement.

IASIA also extended a warm welcome to two new corporate members: the Ministère de la Transition Numérique et de la Réforme de l'Administration, Morocco, and the Centre Africain de Management et de Perfectionnement des Cadres (CAMPC), Côte d'Ivoire, through Proposal N° 5.

In a significant move to honor educational excellence, Proposal N° 6 introduced a new award dedicated to Prof. Dr. Allan Rosenbaum on Quality Education, to be awarded annually to institutions rather than individuals.

Proposal N° 7 approved the signature of a Statement of Cooperation between UNDRR, IIAS, and IASIA, furthering collaboration among these organizations.

Finally, Proposal N° 8 addressed the retroactive appointment of the Board Management members, which was necessary due to the absence of a General Assembly at the Manila 2023 IASIA Conference.

These unanimously approved proposals mark a significant step forward in IASIA’s and IIAS's mission to improve public governance research, education, and practice. The association looks forward to implementing these changes, which will enhance its role as a leading global think tank in the field of public administration.
